Oven cleaning is the job most people put off longest. But a dirty oven affects cooking performance, creates smoke and unpleasant smells, and can even be a fire hazard. Here’s how to tackle it properly. For help with how to clean your oven in the Wellington region, Nice Work Cleaning Co. is your trusted local team.
What You’ll Need
- Baking soda
- White vinegar in a spray bottle
- Rubber gloves
- A plastic or silicone scraper
- Old cloths or paper towels
- A bowl of warm water
Step 1: Remove the Racks
Take out the oven racks and soak them in the bath or laundry tub with hot water and dish soap. Leave to soak while you work on the oven interior.
Step 2: Apply Baking Soda Paste
Mix half a cup of baking soda with a few tablespoons of water to form a spreadable paste. Coat the inside of the oven — avoid the heating elements. Leave for at least 12 hours or overnight.
Step 3: Wipe Out
Use a damp cloth to wipe out as much of the dried paste as possible. Use a plastic scraper on stubborn bits. Spray with white vinegar — it will fizz and loosen remaining residue.
Step 4: Clean the Racks
Scrub the soaked racks with a scourer, rinse well and dry before putting back in the oven.
Step 5: The Door
Spray the glass with vinegar and wipe clean. For heavy grease, apply baking soda paste, leave 30 minutes, then wipe off.
How Often?
Give your oven a deep clean every three to six months. Wipe up spills promptly after each use to prevent baked-on buildup.
Oven cleaning is included in our end of tenancy cleaning service and available as an add-on with regular cleans. Ask us about pricing.
